Florida Teen Accused of Playing Doctor Says He Already Has a PhD
"I do currently hold a PhD," Malachi Love-Robinson, 18, told ABC News in an interview airing on "Good Morning America."
"In what, I don't feel comfortable disclosing, because that is not the issue here."
Police arrested Love-Robinson in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday after conducting an undercover operation at the New Birthing Life Medical Center, which the teen was using.
He's accused of using a website and biography who uses psychotherapy and other techniques to treat patients, and insisted to ABC that he never said he was a medical doctor.
Further, he said he's had training where he shadowed "many doctors," but never went to medical school because he's "not portraying as an M.D." But instead practices phototherapy, food and air treatments and naturopathy.
"I have been studying this particular field for a while," Love-Robinson said. "It may not have been eight years, nine years, 10 years, but it has been long enough to, I would say, justify what I do."
One of the charges against the teen is that he treated an 86-year-old woman and then stole her money, but he told the ABC reporter that "accusations are merely accusations and services, you would have to define that, whether she paid for me to just show up, that's up to her."
